Former Cabinet members and officials who served during the administration of former President Fidel V. Ramos on Thursday endorsed the presidential candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo in the 2022 elections.
Twenty-three former officials signed the statement of support to Robredo, whom they said is the only presidential candidate who possesses the leadership qualities they directly witnessed during the Ramos years and which they seek in the next president of the Philippines.
"The country needs to elect a leader who will lead us into the positive path to the unified, humane, just, progressive, economically vibrant, sustainable and equitable society that is the dream of every Filipino," their statement read.
"We believe that Vice President Leni Robredo... can credibly lead us Filipinos closer towards that dream," they added.
The former officials also expressed concern over the proliferation of misinformation and falsehoods during the campaign, as well as the continued patronage and money politics that have "diverted people's choices away from electing principled leaders."
"We believe that the country sorely needs a leader who will inspire unity, solidarity and teamwork in government and among all Filipinos," they said.
"We enjoin our fellow Filipinos to support [Robredo's] candidacy, as we ourselves pledge our wholehearted commitment to do our share to help her become the next President of the Republic of the Philippines," they added.
Robredo, who began her political career as the reluctant widow of the late interior secretary Jesse Robredo, is running to become the 17th president of the Philippines and the third woman to hold the highest position in the land.
She has embraced the color pink as her campaign color, often associated with femininity, as she described herself to be the "mother" of all Filipinos.
