Filipinos Want to Revenge Travel with Family, Says Airbnb Survey

For their revenge travel, Filipinos who endured a year-long COVID quarantine want to journey with their families, preferably in less crowded spots, according to an Airbnb survey released Wednesday.

Together with YouGov, the home-sharing app polled 1,067 Filipinos from Feb. 4 to 8 and found out that for tier first trip since the lockdown, 60% wanted to travel with immediate or extended family.

Majority of the respondents want to go to less crowded and off-the beaten-path destinations (53%), nature spots (47%), a friend or family member's home (28%) and anywhere as long as it's driving distance (22%).

While March left most quarantine classifications unchanged, travel rules for local destinations were synchronized. Travel passes are a thing of the past. However, test before travel will remain the prerogative of mayors and governors.

The country's largest airline, Cebu Pacific also resumed offering piso fares and killed off change fees to allow passengers unlimited rebookings for the same destination or same price ticket.

"After months apart, Filipinos are keen to travel to spend meaningful quality time with their loved ones, including their immediate and extended families and close friends. Travelers are also looking at slower, more mindful travel amidst nature," Amanpreet Bajaj, Airbnb's general manager for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, was quoted as saying on ABS-CBN News.
