Florita Slightly Weakens, Traverses Over Apayao

(UPDATE) Severe Tropical Storm Florita has slightly weakened as it passed over the northern portion of Apayao on Tuesday afternoon, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

Florita, the sixth storm to hit the country this year, was spotted at the vicinity of Kabugao, Apayao as of 4 p.m. on Tuesday. It packs maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 165 kph moving northwest at 20 kph.

The storm earlier made landfall over Maconacon town in Isabela, threatening nearby areas with heavy rains and strong winds.

Signal No. 3 (Storm-force winds prevailing or expected within 18 hours) was hoisted over:

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Apayao
  • The southern portion of Babuyan Islands (Camiguin Is., Fuga Is., Dalupiri Is.)
  • Mainland Cagayan

Signal No. 2 (Gale-force winds prevailing or expected within 24 hours) was raised over:

  • Ifugao
  • Mountain Province
  • Kalinga
  • Abra
  • Ilocos Sur
  • The rest of Babuyan Islands

Signal No. 1 (Strong winds prevailing or expected within 36 hours) was raised over:

  • La Union
  • The eastern portion of Pangasinan (Umingan, San Fabian, Sison, Pozorrubio, San Jacinto, Laoac, Binalonan, San Manuel, Asingan, Tayug, Santa Maria, San Quintin, Natividad, San Nicolas)
  • Benguet
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Quirino
  • The northern portion of Nueva Ecija (Carranglan, Lupao, San Jose City, Pantabangan)
  • The northern and central portions of Aurora (Maria Aurora, Dipaculao, Dinalungan, Casiguran, Dilasag)

Florita is forecast to continue moving northwestward or west northwestward and traverse the northern portions of Apayao and Ilocos Norte before emerging over the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday night. The storm is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday morning.

Heavy to intense with at times torrential rains may occur over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan, with moderate to heavy rains over Metro Manila, Isabela, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.
