'How 1920's': Angel Locsin Defends Liza Soberano from Army General

Actress and humanitarian Angel Locsin on Friday defended her fellow star, Liza Soberano, from a top Army general who called Soberano out on Facebook over her dealings with women's group Gabriela.

"How 1920's," Locsin said in a story post on her verified Instagram account, "A man calling out a woman on how she should advocate women's rights."

Soberano spoke at a Gabriela youth forum on gender-based violence. The military official, Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade, is outspoken against the left. In the past, he also proposed regulations on social media.

Locsin and Soberano both work for ABS-CBN and Soberano nearly inherited the Darna mantle from Locsin, until an injury forced the younger actress to back out of the movie adaptation of the original Filipina superhero. Locsin was Darna on primetime TV in the mid-2000s.

"How come these macho-fascists have the audacity to mansplain strong women and lecture them on what to do? And why do they seem so afraid of women using their platform to defend other women?," Gabriela said on Twitter.
