Malacañang Declares Sept. 12 Holiday in Ilocos Norte for Marcos Sr.'s Birthday

Malacañang has declared Sept. 12 a special non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte to celebrate the 105th birth anniversary of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

The declaration was made at the request of the Office of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Norte, according to a proclamation issued by Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez.

Marcos' birth anniversary is on Sunday, Sept. 11, but the province asked that the special non-working holiday be declared instead on Monday, Sept. 12.

"It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Province of llocos Norte be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government," the proclamation read.

The father of incumbent President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. was born on Sept. 11, 1917 in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.

In 1965, he was elected the 10th President of the Philippines, a position he held for 21 years before he was ousted during the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.

Thirty-six years later, his family reclaimed Malacañang after Marcos Jr. won the May 2022 presidential elections with a majority vote of 31 million.
