Isko Moreno Says He'll Retire if He Loses in Presidential Elections

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said Thursday he would retire from politics and focus on his family if he loses in the May 9 presidential elections, punctuating his declaration with "walang charutan".

The 47-year-old Moreno, who first held public office as Manila councilor when he was 23, said he owes it to his family to make up for lost time. The former movie actor is trailing former senator Bongbong Marcos and Vice President Leni Robredo in opinion polls.

"Magre-retire na ako, I think I've done my share and the people chose already kung sino ang leader nila," he told the media during his campaign sortie in Cavite when asked what's his next move if he fails to get elected as president.

"With all honesty, wala nang charutan, talagang malaki rin ang sakripisyo ng pamilya dahil sa pagsisikap ko na itaas 'yung antas ng pamumuhay ng tao, mapanatag lang sila, nasakripisyo naman ang time ko sa pamilya ko."

The single-term Manila mayor hopes to take the same route to Malacanang as President Rodrigo Duterte, who parlayed his decades-long experience as Davao City mayor to the presidency.
