Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday warned the electorate against candidates who piggyback on their parents' achievements without much to prove on their own, as he rued how partisan politics is creeping into TikTok.

Moreno did not specifically name his rival for the presidency, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr, whose supporters trumpet the Philippines' so-called golden age under the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in TikTok videos.

Marcos is the only one to have filed a certificate of candidacy as of Friday who is also the child of a former president. The daughter of incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, is being urged to run to succeed him.

"Ginagamitan kayo ng teknolohiya, unti-unting nilalabo ang mata ninyo para 'pag nilabo ang mata ninyo, hindi kayo magtatanong. Kasi ang maaalala ninyo 'yung chismis, pero 'di nyo na makikita ang tunay."
