Coachella Music Festival's Return to the U.S. Set in April 2022
The Coachella music festival in the U.S. is set to return in April 2022 for the first time since the pandemic, organizers said Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila), with half of American adults now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
After two years of forgone mass gatherings which devastated the nation of concert-goers, the 20-year-old, open-air music festival will once again be held for two weekends at the Coachella Valley in southern California's Colorado Desert.
Tickets go on sale on June 4 for those who wish to attend on the weekends of April 15-17 and April 22-24, said Coachella's announcement on Twitter.
Next year's line up of performers is yet to be announced. Historically, some of music's biggest names have headlined the festival including Beyoncé, Prince, Lady Gaga, and Kpop's Blackpink.
Coachella, one of the largest in the world, easily became a pandemic casualty in 2020. Though organizers tried to bring it back in October of 2021, that plan was scrapped, said Reuters, citing media reports.
As vaccinations ramp up all over the world, causing a decline in infection rates, live performances are now making their much-awaited comeback, particularly in Western countries.
The Philippines, on the other hand, has yet to innoculate bulk of its population. The Wanderland Music Festival, often referred to as the “Coachella of the Philippines", was cancelled in March of 2020.
Since then, music events moved to the online space, if not cancelled at all.
