Mercury Drug Says Ivermectin Available Soon, Waiting for Final Clearance

Mercury Drug said Tuesday it would soon sell Ivermectin tablets as a prescription drug as soon as authorities clear the final product for commercial sale.

The country's largest drugstore chain cited the Food and Drug Administration's recent approval of Ivermectin as an anti-nematodal or dewormer. The drug, which some politicians advocate for COVID treatment, is used to treat lice and worms in humans and animals.

"We are awaiting for the final product to be available for commercial sale. Rest assured Ivermectin will soon be available at Mercury Drug stores nationwide," the advisory said.

Research has yet to back claims that Ivermectin is effective against COVID-19 and health officials have warned the public against using it  to treat the viral disease.

Last April, the FDA gave six hospitals compassionate use permits to administer the drug to COVID-positive patients.
