Jinggoy Estrada Eyes Senate Comeback Like Brother JV Ejercito

Former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada on Wednesday said he was inclined to run for senator again in the 2022 elections, saying he had unfinished business in the chamber.

The son of former President Joseph Estrada said his favorable showing in pre-election surveys motivated him to try to run for senator again. In the Feb. 22 to March 3 Pulse Asia survey, he ranked in the 12th to 15th spot. Twelve Senate seats are up for grabs next year.

"There's a strong possibility that I might run for the Senate again.... I'm inclined to run," Estrada told ANC.

"Siguro yun ang nagpapa-encourage sa akin, siguro may tiwala pa rin sa akin ang taumbayan. And I still have a lot of unfinished business in the Senate," he said.

Estrada said the possible candidacy of his brother, former Sen. JV Ejercito, for the same position next year would play a big factor in his decision to run as it might divide their votes.

"Mabuti na iisa lang ang Estrada na tumakbo kasi minsan nalilito ang ating mga botante kung sino sa aming dalawa. So siguro it's high time that we get to talk to each other," he said.

Ejercito earlier said he was considering running again for senator next year.

Estrada previously served in the Senate for two consecutive terms, from 2004 to 2010 and again from 2010 to 2016. He vied for the same position in the 2019 elections, but he failed to clinch a spot in the top 12, like his brother JV.
