Joseph Peter "Jopet" Sison, co-host of the long-running legal drama series "Ipaglaban Mo", replaced former Vice President Noli De Castro in the senatorial slate of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno for the 2022 elections, his party Aksyon Demokratiko said Thursday.

Jopet is the son of lawyer Jose Sison, who has been his co-host on "Ipaglaban Mo" for decades. Jopet also served as assistant executive director of the show.

Outside his television work, Jopet also served as Quezon City councilor for six years and chair of the Liberal Party's chapter in the city, assistant general manager of the National Housing Authority from 2001 to 2005, and president of the National Home Mortgage Corp. from 2006 to 2012.

Jopet will slug it out with broadcaster Raffy Tulfo who, like him, hosts a television show tackling legal issues which appeal to the masses.

He will join Moreno and vice presidential inspirant Dr. Willie Ong in their visit to Batangas on Friday to meet with political and local leaders of the vote-rich province.

De Castro was among the initial senatorial candidates of Aksyon Demokratiko, but he withdrew his candidacy just days after filing due to personal reasons.

Other senatorial bets of the party include Marawi civic leader Samira Gutoc and entrepreneur Carl Balita.
