Robredo to Start Angat Buhay Fund-Raising With Volunteers' Art

Outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday said she was planning to put the paintings she received during her presidential campaign on exhibit to raise funds for the NGO project as a private citizen.

While she appreciates the artworks from supporters, Robredo said that she didn't want the paintings to be left in a storage room where no one can see them.

"Humihingi ako ng permission ng mga nagbigay na ido-donate ko itong lahat ng paintings for Angat Bahay para maraming makinabang," she said, referring to the NGO.

"Isa sa mga unang gagawin, parang exhibit ng mga paintings pero gagawin din siyang fundraising event. Yung lahat ng nagbigay, ito yung contribution niyo to Angat Buhay... Gusto natin i-share sa iba tapos ito pa yung magiging seed fund sa ating mga activities," she added.

Robredo previously said that she would transform the outreach arm of her office, Angat Buhay, into a volunteer-driven NGO that will continue her advocacy for the poor and marginalized once she steps down from her post.

The NGO will be launched in a two-day event on July 1 and 2, and will feature exhibits at her former campaign headquarters in Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City.

The event, however, will be mostly online and will require advanced registration as organizers want to avoid crowding as COVID-19 cases are again rising, Robredo said.

Robredo said her team was also planning a revolving exhibit which will feature other items that she received during her campaign, such as the indigenous products of the provinces she visited painted in pink.

A museum is being put up where Robredo's campaign memorabilia will be displayed, but this will not be launched alongside the Angat Buhay NGO on July 1 as it is still being organized, she added.

"Napaka-heartbreaking na bitawan, pero tingin namin ito yung best way para nalalagay sa prominent place yung binigay nila sa amin," Robredo said. "Magiging bahagi ito ng kwento saka magiging bahagi ng pondo para sa ating mga kababayan at mapupunta ito sa tama."
