Do You Believe in #LetLeniLead? Cher, Goddess of Pop, Says Yes

(UPDATE) Twitter Philippines exploded Wednesday after American singer Cher, often referred to as the "Goddess of Pop", tweeted about presidential candidate Leni Robredo, delighting supporters. 

Known for her unpredictable tweets that range from funny to political, the American singer and gay icon said in a tweet, "Excuse Dont Know Leni".

Her statement seemed to be in response to one user, who engaged with a tweet she wrote saying "IF YOU WANT IT DONE RIGHT....LET A WOMAN DO IT", quote-retweeting it with "Cher really said #LetLeniLead".

After being given context that "Leni" is the Philippines' Vice President vying for the elections, Cher responded with a lengthy reply.

Known for birthing big music hits like "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" and "Believe", Cher is revered in pop culture for her body of work that uplifts women and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Apart from feminist groups, the Robredo campaign has been receiving support from local queer influencers like Sassa Gurl and Pipay Kipay. LGBTQIA+ supporters have also formed groups like "Queers for Leni" and "Bayots for Leni" to support her bid.

As of 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, Cher was the top trending topic on Twitter.
