Household budgets get a reprieve this election month as Meralco said it would decrease power rates for May.

The power distributor said it was implementing a P0.1200 decrease per kilowatt-hour (kWh) after the Energy Regulatory Commission ordered Meralco to refund customers P7.8 billion.

This means that a typical household consuming 200 kWh could see a decrease of around P24 in its total bill.

Meralco for the past two months has increased power rates citing the higher cost of buying electricity that it distributes to consumers.

It also assured customers of continuous efforts to ensure steady electricity supply throughout the remainder of the dry months as households tend to use more power.
