Comelec Debunks 'No Vaccine, No Vote', Other Misinformation

The Commission on Elections said Filipinos could vote in 2022 even without being vaccinated against COVID-19 and without an ID specifically issued by the commission.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez made the clarification on Monday as he debunked claims related to the voting process for the upcoming polls.

"You don't need a Comelec-issued ID to vote, [and] you don't need to be vaccinated to vote," he said in a tweet, adding that Filipinos should still get the vaccine nevertheless.

Jimenez also allayed fears that individual voting history would be revealed.

"No one can find out how you voted, unless you tell them yourself --- kahit pa computerized na tayo," he said.

Jimenez earlier refuted the claim that a national ID is required for Filipinos to cast their votes in the 2022 elections, saying that it was a "voter suppression tactic."

"No specific ID is required in order to vote. An ID might be required if your identity is challenged, but any valid ID will be acceptable," he said.

The 2022 polls, to be held at the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, will determine the successors of President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo.

The Comelec is targeting at least 61 million voters to participate in the upcoming polls.
