PhilSys National ID Must Be Accepted for Gov't Transactions: Duterte Order
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered government agencies and private institutions to start accepting the national ID as sufficient proof of identification in a bid to promote ease of doing business.
The Philippine Identification System or PhilSys will serve as the government's central identification platform for all citizens and resident aliens of the country, Duterte said in an executive order signed Monday.
Under Duterte's order, a person's record in the PhilSys will be deemed sufficient proof of identity and age in all public and private transactions. This means that individuals with a national ID should no longer be asked to present additional proof of identity.
The national ID shall serve as the official government-issued identification document and official proof of identity of cardholders when dealing with agencies of the government. This also includes local government units, and state universities and colleges.
