LOOK: Bikers Push for Car-Free Day to Cool the Planet

Cycling advocates pedalled on the streets of Metro Manila on Tuesday to mark World Car Free Day, an annual event that aims to promote awareness against global warming by encouraging motorists to try alternatives such as biking.

Over the past 6 months, many commuters turned to biking to get around the city as COVID-19 quarantines capped public transport operations.

Aside from reduced traffic and maintained distance between cyclists, biking is also considered active transport, which promotes physical activity and fitness.

Due to the increasing number of bikers plying the streets daily, the government is building a centralized bike lane network in the Metro to provide cyclists with dedicated lanes and paths to make the trip easier and safer.
