'Poblacion Girl' Gwyneth Chua to be Charged Over Quarantine Breach

The Makati City Prosecutor said Thursday it resolved to sue Gwyneth Chua who became viral at the start of the year as "Poblacion Girl" for skipping mandatory quarantine, a violation of the law on mandatory reporting of communicable diseases.

A security guard of Makati's Berjaya Hotel, where Chua was supposed to be quarantined before Christmas 2021, will also be charged "for assisting the escape of Gwyneth from the quarantine facility", the Makati City Prosecutor said in a statement.

The criminal complaint filed by the police against other employees of the hotel as well as Chua's parents and boyfriend was junked due to insufficient evidence according to the Makati City Prosecutor.

Chua went viral for escaping hotel quarantine to party in Makati's hip Poblacion district and later tested positive for COVID-19, and infected at least four of her close contacts.

Her case became viral just as Filipinos welcomed 2022 with rising number of COVID-19 infections due to the more transmissible omicron variant.
