Restored Manila Metropolitan Theater Hit by Fire, No Injuries Reported

(UPDATE) The recently restored Manila Metropolitan Theater was hit by fire on Friday. There were no injuries reported, the authorities said.

Fire out was declared at 9:41 a.m., the city disaster office said on Facebook. It reached second alarm at 9 a.m., as photos showed several fire trucks outside the theater.

The fire started at the first floor of the Padre Burgos Wing, which is under construction, the Manila Metropolitan Theater said on Facebook. 

"Walang naitalang pinsala sa buhay o pag-aari, maliban sa ilang luma at bulok na mga kagamitan na tinanggal mula sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng Tanghalan," it said.

The art deco Manila Metropolitan Theater reopened its doors to the public in December 2021, 25 years after it closed. It is considered a National Historical Landmark and National Cultural Treasure.
