Ferdinand Alexander "Sandro" Marcos on Tuesday said he would run to represent Ilocos Norte's first district in the 2022 elections, a bid that could place another scion of the Marcos family in power.

He is the eldest son of former Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and grandson of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who holds a Guinness World Record for the "Greatest Robbery of a Government," on top of thousands of human rights violations committed by his regime.

The 27-year-old announced his candidacy in Sarrat town, the birthplace of his namesake grandfather.

"I thank you for all the support and heed your call to serve our beloved province," the young Marcos said.

Currently, Sandro's cousin, Matthew Marcos Manotoc, is incumbent Ilocos Norte governor, a position Manotoc's mother, Imee, held for nine years until she won a Senate seat in 2019.

Sandro's father Bongbong recently said he was running for a national post again in 2022, after a hard-fought loss to Vice President Leni Robredo in 2016.

Sandro is expected to run against another scion of another political family, the Fariñases of Ilocos.

“If they were happy with the things that transpired during their terms, I can almost guarantee that they will get the same from me,” he said.
