Marcos-Duterte: Bongbong Names Sara as Vice Presidential Running Mate

President aspirant Bongbong Marcos' party has adopted Sara Duterte-Carpio as his running mate, sealing an alliance between the families of a former and incumbent Philippine leader that are both known for strong-handed leadership.

Marcos' Partido Federal ng Pilipinas on Saturday issued a resolution adopting Duterte-Carpio as the party's bet for vice president. Duterte-Carpio is seeking the vice presidency under former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Lakas-CMD party.

The only son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos is promising to return the Philippines to what he claims is the country's golden age. The Davao City mayor, on the other hand, seeks to replicate his father's jump from city hall to Malacañang, albeit a heartbeat away.

The Marcos-Duterte ticket will go against the opposition ticket led by Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate, Sen. Francis Pangilinan.

Branding themselves as alternatives to the administration-opposition divide are the tickets of Senators Panfilo Lacson and Tito Sotto; Sen. Manny Pacquiao and Buhay Party-list Rep. Lito Atienza; and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and medical doctor and influencer Willie Ong.

At stake in the elections is the country's recovery from the pandemic and the deepest recession since World War II.
