How to Vote on May 9: Here's a Step-by-Step Guide

Come prepared to your precinct.

Filipinos are set to vote on Monday, May 9 in a historic election that will decide the country's fate as millions seek to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic under a new president.

Polling precincts will open at 6 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m., giving Filipinos a longer time to cast their vote due to restrictions in place such as physical distancing measures.

While voters are not required to be vaccinated against COVID-19, it's a must that they wear face masks according to the Commission on Elections.

To prepare ahead of time, the Comelec advised the public to prepare their kodigo of preferred candidates to make the voting process faster.

Here's a step-by-step guide to voting:

1. Have your temperature checked before entering the voting center. Those with COVID-19 symptoms can still vote at the designated isolation room in polling precincts.

2. Go to the Voters' Assistance Desk to get your precinct and sequence numbers and assigned room or clustered precinct.

3. Go to your assigned room and inform the Electoral Board of your name, precinct number, and sequence number.

4. Get your ballot, ballot secrecy folder, and marking pen from the Electoral Board and go to the voting area.

5. Shade the oval appearing before the name of the candidate you wish to vote for. Don't overvote.

6. Feed the ballot into the Vote Counting Machine.

7. Check the receipt and drop it in the provided bin.

8. Have your right forefinger marked with indelible ink.

Things to remember:

1. Check your precinct location online ahead of time. Only those with an active status can vote on May 9.

2. You can bring your phone when you vote.
