Teens, Seniors Can Now Go Out of Their Homes as Quarantines Ease

(UPDATE) Teenagers and senior citizens are now allowed to go out of their homes, Malacanang said Friday as the government eased age-based travel restrictions due to COVID-19.

Those aged 15 to 65 can leave their homes, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said noting a resolution approved by the government's COVID-19 pandemic response task force. Local government units, however, may impose a higher age limit for minors, he said.

For over seven months, children, teens, and senior citizens were confined to their homes since the government only allowed adults aged 21 to 59 to go out as a precaution against the virus. Exemptions were granted to some senior citizens, particularly those with day jobs, and those who live alone.

The easing of age-based travel restrictions come as the Philippines kept most parts of the country under eased community quarantines to expand economic activity.

The national government is also appealing to LGUs to exempt workers, authorized persons outside of their homes, and establishments offering basic services from local curfew ordinances, and to “coordinate between and among each other and standardize curfew rules, and relax curfew hours," Rqoue said.

The easing of age-based travel restrictions come as the Philippines kept most parts of the country under eased community quarantines to expand economic activity.
