Outrage After Flight Attendant Christine Dacera is Raped, Killed

Three suspects were arrested.

On Tuesday, 400,000 Twitter posts expressed shock and outrage over the killing of Christine Angelica Dacera, a 23-year-old flight attendant. The incident also reignited debates on women, rape and drinking.

Dacera was found dead in the bathtub of her Makati City hotel room on New Year's Day. Late Monday, police declared the case "solved" with the arrest of three suspects.

Her mother, Sharon, told GMA News that her daughter only wanted to have a good time on New Year's Eve. Addressing the suspects in the case, she said: "Kung anumang kababuyan ginawa nyo sa anak ko, hindi deserve ni Christine yun, hindi deserve ng anak ko. 'Wag nyong gawing baboy ang anak ko, tao ang anak ko. Hindi makasalita si Christine, pinatay nyo pa."

On Tuesday, #JusticeForChristineDacera was the top Twitter trend with 422,000 posts as of 9 a.m. Also trending: #ProtectDrunkGirls, MEN ARE TRASH, Death Penalty, and at least two names of suspects that were released by the Philippine National Police.

The PNP Chief, General Debold Sinas, said the three arrested suspects were charged with rape with homicide. Nine others are at large, Sinas said.

Decera and the suspects were at a New Year’s Eve Party at the City Garden in Makati City before she was found unconscious in her hotel room bathtub, police said.

The flight attendant was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
