Two more Robinsons Malls installed solar panels top its rooftops as part of effortsto pivot to clean energy, its operator said, making it the biggest mall operator in the country to use renewables.
Robinsons Place Santiago in Isabela and Robinsons Place Butuan in Agusan del Norte are now solar powered, bringing its total number of malls using sustainable energy to 23.
"Instead of buying electricity from a distribution utility, the mall operator can power its facilities by harnessing solar energy during the day, thereby relieving the burden on the grid especially during peak hours and helping government address instances of power shortage," Robinsons Land said..
The Isabela mall, which started operations in April, has produced enough solar electricity equivalent to avoid 368.44 metric tons of CO2 emission and eased the strain on the local power cooperative, Robinsons Land said.
The mall in Butuan generated clean energy enough to foreg 225.04 MT of CO2 emissions. Robinsons Malls also continued its solar projects in eight malls in Jaro, Pavia, Ormoc City, Antique Expansion, North Tacloban, Naga City, General Santos City, and Iligan City in 2020.
Robinsons Land Corp saved P210 million due to its shift to clean energy.
