The proposed mega-vaccination hub within the Nayong Pilipino Foundation property will be built in a "deserted" area and not in an urban forest, billionaire Enrique Razon's International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) Foundation said Wednesday.

Nayong Pilipino earlier said that the site for the mega-vaccination hub is an "urban forest" filled with wildlife.

"The proposed site is on a vacant portion of the Nayong Pilipino property along New Seaside Road, Entertainment City, in Parañaque. Contrary to previous reports, the proposed site is actually a deserted, uninhabited and vacant area and not an urban forest as erroneously claimed,"  ICTSI said.

"It must be remembered that the entire Entertainment City sits on reclaimed land and unused portions of it, along with the Nayong Pilipino property, have limited vegetation including non-endemic trees," it added.

Photos shared to the media by ICTSI of the proposed site location showed barren land without any trees.

"It must be put in context that one of the advocacies of the ICTSI Foundation is sustainable environmental protection," ICTSI said.

The Department of Health earlier said that the country's first mega vaccination hub would be located inside the Nayong Pilipino Foundation property. The facility is expected to cater to between 10,000 to 12,000 people a day, boosting the country's vaccination efforts by up to 300,000 people per month.

ICTSI said it would shoulder the cost of construction of the vaccination hub, which was designed for free by renowned urban planner and architect Jun Palafox. It also noted that the project is supported by Malacañang and the country's inter-agency task force on pandemic response.
