2020 in Emojis: Here's What Netizens Used the Most

The year 2020 was a difficult year for the entire world with the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. And yet surprisingly, people still found a way to find laughter despite the chaos and uncertainty as proven by the top emoji this year.

Microblogging site Twitter said the most used emoji for the year is the one that shows a face with tears of joy, surprisingly not a sad one.

The loudly crying emoji came in second followed by the pleading face emoji at third.

Twitter also said tweets about cooking nearly tripled this year and noted the increase in the use of sweet food-related emojis.

"The trends in food-related emojis suggest that everyone developed a serious sweet tooth and all those video calls created an upswing in adult beverages," Twitter said in a blog post.
