More buses will be allowed to ferry commuters on EDSA, up to 284, after the EDSA Busway System added 90 units, with augmented operations scheduled to start on Wednesday, authorities said. As more people are allowed to return to work, public transport is adjusting to the new normal under the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EDSA Busway System will absorb the 90 buses from the MRT Bus Augmentation Program, bringing the total to 284. The line can load and unload passengers in bus stops near MRT-3 stations. The Department of Transportation announced the higher bus allocation on Facebook.

From a fixed fare of P25, it will be adjusted to a base fare of P13 for the first five kilometers with an additional P2.20 for every succeeding kilometers.

The MRT-3 Bus Augmentation Program was introduced in June to help train riders commute to and from the station.

Health and safety protocols will be strictly implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Commuters are required to undergo temperature scans, wear face masks at all times, and observe physical distancing.
