The heat index in Metro Manila will remain in the "extreme caution" range during the Mother's Day weekend, where millions are at risk of heat cramps and exhaustion if they don't cool down, PAGASA said Friday.
The temperature as felt by the body could hit a high of 38.3 degrees Celsius on Friday, from 40 degrees the day before, forecaster Raymond Ordinario told TeleRadyo. These heat index forecasts are within the yellow or "extreme caution" tier (32 to 41 degrees), the third highest under a four-step warning system.
Over the Mother's Day weekend, the heat index in Metro Manila could hit 38.6 degrees on Saturday and 38.4 degrees on Sunday.
Aside from heat cramps and heat exhaustion, prolonged activity when the heat index is under yellow warning could lead to heat stroke. The orange warning (41 to 54 degrees) indicated "danger." Anything above 54 degrees indicates "extreme danger" wherein heat stroke is imminent.
