Four in 10 Filipino adults said their quality of life worsened in the past 12 months, results of a Social Weather Stations Survey released Sunday showed.
Two out of 10 Filipinos or 24% said their lives got better, classified as "gainers", while 36% said it remained unchanged compared to a year ago, the Dec. 12-16 survey found. The 40% who said their life worsened were classified as "losers" by the polling firm.
More gainers were reported in the latest survey, higher by 28 points compared to September 2021 but still 34 points below pre-pandemic levels in December 2019.
The increase of gainers "was due to improvements in all areas, especially in Metro Manila and Mindanao", SWS said.
Results of the survey were released as the Philippines started to further reopen the economy by drastically easing COVID-19 restrictions in the capital region and several other areas to Alert Level 1.
Socioeconomic Planning Sec. Karl Chua earlier said that should the entire Philippines be placed under Alert Level 1 in the coming days, the country is estimated to gain P16.5 billion more per week of economic activity.
A nationwide easing of restrictions will also mean P5.2 billion more in salaries per week and jobs for some 297,000 unemployed Filipinos, he said.
