At least three cities in Metro Manila have started vaccinating indigent or the A5 priority group against COVID-19 as the immunization program expands further, authorities said.
The Manila Public Information Office (PIO) said on Facebook it opened first dose vaccination for those under A5 on Wednesday, June 16.
Manila COVID-19 Vaccine Action Center (MCVAC) said it would give Pfizer jabs to its poor residents.
"Ang sabi ni Yorme [Mayor Isko Moreno], ito ang donated ng COVAX kaya ito ang pinamimigay natin sa ating indigents," a MCVAC representative told reportr.
San Juan started vaccinating its indigent residents with Pfizer vaccine on Tuesday, Mayor Francis Zamora said.
Mandaluyong began inoculating its indigent constituents as early as Monday, June 14, the city government said.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said the Pfizer vaccines should be given to the indigent population after vaccine brand preference drove people to vaccine sites distributing the high-efficacy Pfizer jab.
