Rainy Holy Week Ahead as Agaton Weakens on Exit

It will combine with Typhoon Malakas in the east.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Agaton (Megi) will bring rains to the Philippines' eastern seaboard through the rest of the Holy Week, PAGASA said Wednesday, as millions prepare to travel around the country for the four-day weekend.

The low pressure area that was once Agaton was spotted 65 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar at 3 a.m., the weather bureau said, as it warned of heavy rains in parts of Visayas, Bicol Region, and Mindanao.

A second typhoon that is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility with international name Malakas is pulling the remnants of Agaton eastward, away from the country, said weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio.

Masbate and Sorsogon will experience widespread rains with thunderstorms while cloudy skies with scattered rains and occasional thunderstorms threaten Bicol, Marinduque, Roblon, and Quezon, said Aurelio, reminding residents there to be on alert in case of flooding and landslides.

Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga will experience isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, he said,

Fair weather with localized thunderstorms are expected in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon until Black Saturday, he said.
