Angel Locsin: 'My Weight Does Not Define My Worth'

The actress says whether she loses weight or not, 'it's not an issue'.

For actress Angel Locsin, whose Darna persona of helping the vulnerable transcends TV into real life, comments critics make regarding her body do not matter.

Whether she loses weight or not, the philantrophist said that "it's not an issue", having long proven her worth as a person in many ways outside her physical appearance. 

"I'm trying, but i'm not trying my best. I don't really care," she told entertainment reporter Ogie Diaz when asked if she's been trying to slim down back into her old figure. 

Burdened by overcrowding in hospitals due to the COVID-19 pandemic, frontliners were calling out for help in March of 2020, and Locsin was among the first to come to their rescue. On top of her personal donations, she had launched a crowdfunding initiative to help set up hospital tents and provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontliners. 

Despite the kindness she was promoting, many on social media zeroed in on her physical appearance instead.

"I'm acknowledging this. Yes, malaki ako. Eh, ano naman ngayon? Bakit, may kawalan ba?," she said, noting that sometimes, she does get affected a bit but knows better than take the comments seriously.

"Ang pagiging Angel Locsin ko ay hindi nasusukat kung gaano ako kabigat. Alam ko ang dami kong na-prove sa sarili ko sa ibang tao so okay na ako dun. Bahala na kung anong sasabihin [nila]. Wala akong pakialam," she later added.
