Apple is targeting a Sept. 7 launch for the iPhone 14 series, which is expected to offer for the first time a big-screen option for the non-pro model, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

The 6.7-inch iPhone 14 will offer consumers larger screen real estate without paying the highest price tag, current held by the Pro Max models. Apple will discontinue the mini but will keep the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 14 Pro and the 6.7-inch Pro Max, according to the report.

The vanilla iPhone 14 models will retain the notch at the top of the screen while the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will have a pill-shaped cutout for the Face ID sensors and a punch hole for the selfie camera, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who has a track of record of reporting on future Apple releases based on insider tips.

The pro models will also get upgraded processors and a 48-megapixel wide camera plus 12-megapixel telephoto and ultra-wide shooters. The non-pro models will have the same camera set as in the iPhone 13, Bloomberg said.

iPhones account for roughly half of Apple sales according to Bloomber data and the 14 series will be unveiled as consumers face a global economic slowdown and soaring inflation two years into the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rival Samsung in early August launched its Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 foldable smartphones, a form factor that Apple has not explored.
