ECQ, MECQ, GCQ, MGCQ: Here's Your Guide for August 2021

Varying community quarantine protocols are set to take effect in different parts of the Philippines on Sunday, Aug. 1, as the country guards against the spread of the highly contagious delta variant of coronavirus.

For August, Malacañang said five types of community quarantine protocols will be implemented: enhanced community quarantine or ECQ, modified enhanced community quarantine or MECQ, general community quarantine or GCQ, GCQ with heightened restrictions, and modified general community quarantine or MGCQ.

Here's your guide to what you can and cannot do depending on the community quarantine type in your area:

Allowed age groups

  • ECQ: 18-65 years old
  • MECQ: 18-65 years old
  • GCQ with heightened restrictions: 18-65 years old, fully vaccinated senior citizens
  • GCQ: 18-65 years old, fully vaccinated senior citizens
  • MGCQ: 15-65 years old, fully vaccinated senior citizens

Interzonal travel from NCR Plus Areas

  • ECQ: not allowed
  • MECQ: not allowed, limited to APOR only
  • GCQ with heightened restrictions: allowed but subject to destination LGU restrictions
  • GCQ: allowed but subject to destination LGU restrictions
  • MGCQ: allowed but subject to destination LGU restrictions

Intrazonal travel from NCR Plus Areas

  • ECQ: Limited to access of basic goods, work permitted
  • MECQ: Limited to access of basic goods, work permitted
  • GCQ with heightened restrictions: Limited to access of basic goods, work permitted
  • GCQ: Limited to access of basic goods, work permitted, and other activities allowed
  • MGCQ: not applicable

Religious activities (weddings, baptisms, etc.)

  • ECQ: gatherings are prohibited
  • MECQ: 10%-30% capacity
  • GCQ with heightened restrictions:10%-30% capacity
  • GCQ: 30%-50% capacity
  • MGCQ: 50% capacity

Indoor dining

  • ECQ: not allowed
  • MECQ: not allowed
  • GCQ with heightened restrictions: 20%-30% capacity
  • GCQ: 50% capacity
  • MGCQ: allowed

Outdoor dining

  • ECQ: not allowed
  • MECQ: 50% capacity
  • GCQ with heightened restrictions: 50% capacity
  • GCQ: allowed
  • MGCQ: allowed

Personal care services (salons, barbershops, etc.)

  • ECQ: not allowed
  • MECQ: not allowed
  • GCQ with heightened restrictions: 30%-40% capacity
  • GCQ: 50% capacity
  • MGCQ: 75% capacity

Staycations

  • ECQ: not allowed
  • MECQ: not allowed
  • GCQ with heightened restrictions: allowed
  • GCQ: allowed
  • MGCQ: allowed
