Batanes Reopens to Tourists, Here's Your Guide

Batanes reopened on May 15, giving tourists the opportunity to cross the island off their bucket lists after two years under COVID-19.

Located on the country's northern tip, Batanes is known for rolling hills, cliffside views and typhoon-proof homes that are unlike no other in the Philippines. The trial period for tourism is initially scheduled until June 30.

Here's what you should know about travel to Batanes:

Who are allowed to enter?

  • Tourists
  • Returning residents such as overseas Filipino workers and authorized persons outside residence
  • Government and private officials onofficial business within a limited or specific period of time

Is COVID-19 vaccination required?

Yes, tourists must be fully vaccinated to enter the islands.

"No tourists below five years old, those ineligible for vaccination, or any person not fully vaccinated for any reason shall be accepted," it said.

What are the other requirements?

Tourists will be asked to present the following:

  • Vaccination cards or digital copy of their vaccination certificate from VaxCertPH
  • Approved travel pass via S-Pass 
  • Certificate of Acceptance issued by the provincial tourism office upon submission of requirements

Upon arrival, tourists will undergo health screening. They will also be asked to accomplish a health declaration form.

What happens if tourists show symptoms of COVID-19?

Tourists with COVID symptoms will be tested for free. If results come back positive, they will be isolated in a quarantine facility.

How many tourists will be allowed to enter?

A maximum of 50 tourists per week will be accomodated during the trial period from May 15 to June 30, 2022.

Is DIY travel allowed?

No. All tourists must book a tour from a DOT-accredited operator as they will orient tourists on the travel requirements.
