Boracay will reopen to tourists by Oct. 1, ABS-CBN News quoted Tourism Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat as saying on Wednesday. Visitors need to present proof that they tested negative for the coronavirus 48-72 hours before travel.

The Philippines' tourism centerpiece had been operating inside a bubble since June, open only to neighboring Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Bacolod and Iloilo. Some 199 hotels are allowed to operate, Puyat said, according to ABS-CBN.

Airlines are advised to use only one airport for travel to Boracay, Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan, the report said.

From Boracay to Baguio to Tagaytay, authorities are slowly and carefully reopening the Philippines' tourists' destinations to more people, careful to prevent a spike in cases.
