Boracay Reinstates Negative RT-PCR Test Requirement for Tourists

Tourists heading to Boracay Island need to present a negative RT-PCR test result effective Jan. 9 based on an order issued by the provincial government of Aklan as the country sees a renewed surge in COVID-19 infections.

Travelers need to submit a negative RT-PCR test result taken within 72 hours before the date of travel, Aklan Gov. Florencio Miraflores said in an executive order. Saliva RT-PCR tests will be accepted.

The RT-PCR test requirement was reinstated nearly two months after it was first dropped in November 2021 as the country sees a surge in infections following the holidays and due to the hyper-contagious Omicron coronavirus variant.

Here are the requirements for tourists planning to visit Boracay effective Jan. 9:

1. Fill up the health declaration form and register at touristboracay.com

2. An RT-PCR negative result certificate taken within 72 hours from date of travel

3. Proof of identification with Philippine residency or passport for foreigners and overseas Filipino workers

4. Confirmed booking slip or form from a Boracay Island accommodation establishment accredited by the Department of Tourism

5. Roundtrip travel details

Tourists are required to use the QR code that will be generated after filling up the health declaration form for contact tracing purposes.

For tourists who have been residing within Aklan, they need to present only their COVID-19 vaccine card or certificate in lieu of an RT-PCR test.
