While some countries are starting to flatten the curve in this fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems as if the worst has yet to come for the others.
Brazil, in particular, has seen the number of coronavirus cases skyrocket over the last couple of months. At the turn of May, it only reported less than 100,000 confirmed cases across the country. However, weeks later at the start of June, the count was already above 500,000.
Now, a couple of weeks into July, Brazil reaches a grim milestone as it passes 1.8 million confirmed COVID-19 cases with a death toll of over 70,000. And judging by the trends observed in the country these past few weeks, that number is likely to continue to rise.
Another country that reported multiple coronavirus deaths just recently is France, with its death toll now past the 30,000 mark. For context, France ranks outside the top 10 in terms of the number of cases with just 200,000 as of this writing, but it alarmingly finds itself in sixth in terms of the total number of deaths.
On a global scale, the COVID-19 count is now at 12 million, with 6.8 million recoveries and 560,000 deaths.
