Former Grab Philippines president Brian Cu is joining Cebu Pacific as board member, five months after he left the ride-hailing and delivery platform, the country's largest airline said Thursday.
A veteran in the startup industry, Cu will now take on a new challenge as an independent director of Cebu Air, Inc., which operates Cebu Pacific.
Cu has co-founded three notable startups in the last decade alone. While he was working as a management consultant with Boston Consulting Group, Cu co-founded GoJek, the leading online ride-hailing app in Indonesia. After his CFO stint at GoJek, Cu went on to co-found Zalora Philippines in 2012, where he was also managing director. His biggest break came in 2013 when he co-founded Grab Philippines, and was the president and country head for over seven years, leading the way for Grab to become the top ride-hailing app in the country.
"He has a real passion for building companies that deliver a positive impact in society," Cebu Air told the stock exchange.
"Aside from enjoying getting into the weeds and fixing a company's operational challenges and defining growth strategies he also finds time to build up the next generation of entrepreneurs through mentorship or investments."

Also joining the board at Cebu Air is Bernadine Siy, who is the chairman of the board of trustees at Ateneo de Manila University, the first woman to hold the job. Siy is also a board member of the Kenny Rogers restaurant chain, which she founded in 2014, and Seattle's Best Coffee, which she brought to the Philippines in 2000.
Cebu Air's board of directors is chaired by James Go. Other members of the board include Jose Buenaventura, Robina Gokongwei-Pe, Frederick Go, Antonio Go, Wee Khoon Oh, Cornelio Peralta, and Lance Gokongwei, the president and CEO of Cebu Air and JG Summit Holdings.
Cebu Air and Summit Media, the publisher of Esquire Philippines, are subsidiaries of JG Summit Holdings.
