Classes in all levels in Cavite province are suspended on Friday, July 2, due to the threat posed by Taal Volcano after it spewed steam and magma, Governor Jonvic Remulla said.

"Sa mga may pasok sa paaralan kung elementary man o kolehiyo, classes suspended, submissions postponed, online classes are on hold. Wifi signals might be impaired and heavy ashfall is a possibility tomorrow," he said in a Facebook post.

Taal Volcano was placed under Alert Level 3 indicating magmatic unrest on Thursday, one notch higher from Level 2 (increasing unrest), after it belched a dark plume due to contact between magma or molten rocks and water near the crater.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr. on Thursday said it was unlikely for ashfall from Taal Volcano to reach Metro Manila and other provinces in the Southern Tagalog region.

"Masyadong mababa yung pagputok kanina, kung meron mang ashfall yun ay baka bahagya lang at doon lang sa crater," he said.

As a precautionary measure, Remulla asked Cavite residents to stay indoors and prepare face masks as he assured of evacuation preparations, particularly in Tagaytay City.

"The province of Cavite is in close coordination with the officials of the LGU’s surrounding Taal. We have enough food stocks to last for five days. Over 100 vehicles are being mobilized to help with the evacuation," he said.
