Chavit Singson is Viral for P1 Million, Air Jordans Birthday Raffle

One of the most prominent politicians in the north, Luis "Chavit" Singson was trending on social media the morning after his birthday on Wednesday after scheduling a raffle for P1 million and 24 pairs of coveted Air Jordan sneakers.

It was a display of #gratitude for the 81-year-old mayor of Narvacan town, Ilocos Sur, who also debuted an eponymous fragrance "Chavit Singson Gratitude" by local perfume maker Aficionado.

The P1 million pot was initially meant to be divided among 200 Facebook subscribers, each getting P5,000. As the raffle proceeded, Singson said three subscribers would get P100,000 for the first prize, P60,000 for the second prize,and P30,000 for the third prize.

Some 43,741 YouTube subscribers were part of the raffle. The live feed on Facebook was shared 29,000 times and had 476,000 comments.

"Ang purpose natin dito, para mapasaya ko kayong lahat ngayong araw na ito," he said.

His YouTube page following has almost doubled by Wednesday morning with more than 74,000 subscribers.

"Ituloy natin ito next week, June 28, same time, P2 million na ang pamimigay natin, pera 'yung mga premyo... Tig-P10,000 na," he said.
