Chel Diokno: 'VP Leni Robredo is My President'

The human rights lawyer is also running in 2022.

Human rights lawyer Chel Diokno on Tuesday declared support for Vice President Leni Robredo should she run for president in the 2022 elections.

"Vice President Leni Robredo is my president," Diokno told Summit Sandwich Sessions.

Both Diokno and Robredo are among the potential candidates for president and vice president of the 1Sambayan opposition coalition, which the group announced in June this year.

While Diokno said he "does not aspire" for the positions he was nominated for, he earlier declared that he would be running again in the 2022 elections for a position he has yet to announce.

Diokno previously ran for senator under the Otso Diretso slate in the 2019 elections. The entire slate lost to President Rodrigo Duterte's bets.

"Actually I learned a lot from the campaign in 2019. And we were able to draw a lot of lessons from that attempt. We have been thinking about this and planning this for quite some time," he said.

"Alam naman natin na yung problema sa kampanya is how to wage the air and the ground work. It's always a question of strategy, tactics as well as making use of the limited resources that we have," he added.

Diokno is the chairman of the Free Legal Assistance Group and the founding dean of the De La Salle University College of Law.
