Comelec Explains Red and Green Lights at Its HQ Entrance

The color choice will be rectified, poll body says.

Comelec said Friday the management of the building in Manila where its national headquarters is located will "rectify" the red and green lights at its facade, after some Twitter users questioned why it's the same as the campaign colors of the Marcos-Duterte ticket.

The spokesman of the Comelec, James Jimenez, answered a Twitter post from journalist Raissa Robles on the color choice. Red is the color of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos while green is the choice of her running mate, Sara Duterte, who is President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter.

"The COMELEC is a tenant in that building, which is under the management of Office of the President. I have been told that the building’s administration is planning to swap out these ones for differently colored lights," Jimenez said.

"They should be more mindful. When this was pointed out to them, they immediately moved to rectify," he said in another tweet.

According to the website of Palacio del Gobernador Condominium Corp, the building has eight occupants, including Comelec, the Bureau of Treasury, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission, and a branch of Land Bank of the Philippines.

Comelec was also trending overnight after supporters of Marcos' rival, Vice President Leni Robredo, protested the removal of campaign posters from provate property.
