The Commission on Elections on Thursday officially launched a platform which will allow national candidates for the 2022 elections to livestream their online meetings or "e-rallies" for free.
The Campaign S • A • F • E • COMELEC e-Rally Channel on Facebook will provide free airtime for all bona fide candidates for president, vice president, and senator, as well as partylist organizations to broadcast their e-rallies.
"This platform can help ensure that even those candidates who have less in followers can still have more in views and exposure, so to speak," Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said.
The poll body will release a schedule of e-rally timeslots for each elective positions allocated as follows:
- President: 10 minutes, 3 slots per night
- Vice president: 10 minutes, 3 slots per night
- Senator: 3 minutes, 5 slots per night
- Party-list: 3 minutes, 5 slots per night
- Political parties: 10 minutes, 3 slots per night
The livestreaming of e-rallies will be held every night beginning Feb. 8, 2022, on the official social media channels of Comelec. Each night, there will be three presidential and three vice presidential slots at 10 minutes each, and 10 slots for partylists at 3 minutes each.
"The Commission will issue the pertinent guidelines on how the candidates and partylist organizations can participate in the e-rally channel," Jimenez said.
The conduct of free e-rallies on Comelec's social media platforms came as campaign activities for the 2022 elections are expected to be less on touch and more on social media due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19.
