Commuters can now use their beep cards at food kiosks in LRT-1 train stations, management said Thursday.
Light Rail Manila Corporation launched the the new payment feature of beep payment at the Taft Station of LRT-1. Using the card, and LRMC representative paid for goods from a Master Siomai stall.
To pay for a transaction, cardholders will hover over the kiosk's terminal which displays the total amount to be paid. Once completed, the terminal will display a green check mark.
The beep card is mostly used to store credits commuters can use to pay for train and bus fares. Back in 2016, the card could be used for cashless transactions at convenience stores. As COVID-19 remains a threat, cashless and contactless transactions are preferred to minimize risk of spreading the respiratory disease.
Those with cards can also load it for fair payments without convenience fees.
