A Filipino couple in Canada won the lottery twice, winning enough money to pay off their home mortgage and go on vacation, news reports there said.

Liezl Panganiban and Edgar Ebreo from Port Coquitlam in British Columbia first won $500,000 (P19.5 million) when they matched all four numbers playing the Extra at the Lotto 6/49 draw in September. TriCity News reported they found out they won while doing laundry.

After eight months, they got lucky again with a $5 "Set For Life" ticket, scratched the card, and saw three cash symbols which meant they won $675,000 (about P26.4 million), the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) said in a statement.

Panganiban and Ebreo won a total of $1,175,000 (P45.9 million).

The couple plans to use the prize to pay off their mortgage, help out their family in the Philippines, and go on a future trip to Hawaii.

The odds of winning the $675,000 grand prize on a "Set for Life" ticket is one out of 508,000, while the odds of matching 4 out of 4 numbers in the Extra at the Lotto 6/49 is one in 3,764,376.
