318 COVID Cases Logged as Philippines Confirms Fourth Omicron Case

The Philippines on Monday logged 318 new COVID-19 infections as the country confirmed its fourth case of the Omicron variant.

The day's tally brought active cases to 9,579, with a total of 255 new recoveries and 11 new deaths reported.

Overall, a total of 2,838,792 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,777,002 have recovered and 51,200 died.

The country's fourth Omicron case is a 38-year old woman who arrived from the U.S. on Dec. 10 and was quarantined upon arrival. She experienced throat itchiness and colds by Dec. 13, said Health Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire.

She tested positive fore the virus on Dec. 15 and was transfered from a government facility to home isolation by Dec. 24 when she was asymptomatic. She is scheduled for another swab test on Tuesday, Vergeire said.

Alert Level 2 for the entire country is set to last until Dec. 31 despite the detection of Omicron cases.
