COVID Cases Double to 10,775 From Day Before, Highest for 2022

The Philippines on Wednesday logged 10,775 new COVID-19 cases, the highest ever for 2022 and double the tally from the previous day.

The day's tally brought active cases to 36,975, with a total of 605 new recoveries and 58 new deaths reported.

On the same day last week, 889 cases were tallied. The last time the country hit the 10,000 mark was on Oct. 8, 2021 with 10,670 infections.

Overall, a total of 2,871,745 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,780,109 have recovered and 51,662 died.

The capital region along with Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal will be under Alert Level 3 until Jan. 15 after infections increased in the days following Christmas. 

Biogesic and paracetamol on Monday night topped Twitter trends following what netizens said was limited supply of the painkiller at pharmacies during flu season that hit as COVID cases are spiking.

The Department of Health said it consulted major drugstores and manufacturers regarding the supply, and assured the public there was no shortage of paracetamol in the market.
