The Philippines on Sunday logged 6,913 new COVID-19 cases as Metro Manila entered its first week under the less restrictive Alert Level 3.

The day's tally brought active cases to 81,641. A total of 10,237 new recoveries and 95 new deaths were also reported.

Overall, a total of 2,720,368 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,598,052 have recovered and 40,675 died.

The alert level status in Metro Manila was downgraded one notch to Alert Level 3 from Alert Level 4 on Saturday, allowing more activities to resume such as going on staycations and to the cinemas.

The easing of the alert level status in the capital region also allowed more establishments to operate or be undertaken a maximum of 30% indoor venue capacity for fully vaccinated individuals and 50% outdoor venue capacity.

On Oct. 15, the Philippines also began inoculating minors as young as 12 years old against COVID-19. Overall, the country has so far fully vaccinated 23 million people.
